Mt. Horeb Elementary School
The Jefferson County school board commissioned Rentenbach and Cope Associates to design and construct a new K-6 facility to house 750 students. This single story structure commenced construction in the summer of 2011. The facility was completed in time for students to begin school in August of 2012. Development of this 22 acre campus included, in addition to the facility, an extension of infrastructure to the site and parking for 148 vehicles and designated space for future expansion.
The school has a structural masonry frame, with an EPDM roofing system, and exterior finish of brick veneer and EIFS. Wall finishes are painted CMU with a combination of VCT, quarry tile, resinous flooring, hardwood, and ceramic tile floor finishes. Windows are a combination of storefront aluminum and awning with a combination of wood and storefront aluminum doors. The HVAC system consists of a combination of ground mounted, roof top, and individual room split units.
Although there is no LEED goal for this project, the design encompasses extensive energy and water saving features.
