Rentenbach and Architects McCarty Holsaple McCarty and BarberMcMurry are involved in completion of the design process for the New  University Center  at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  This new facility will replace the current Carolyn P. Brown University Center with approximately 330,000 square feet to be constructed in two major phases. Phase 1 includes demolition of the parking garage, the counseling center, student services building, Temple Court, and Anaconda Court in their totality. The University Center will remain in operation until the Phase 1 work is complete. Phase 1 will encompass construction of the bookstore, 7 new food concepts with associated dining; along with approximately 12,000 square feet of temporary flexible space for meeting rooms, administrative staff and custodial functions.

Phase 2 will consist of demolition of the current Student Center and replacement with new construction.

The project currently envisions a multi-story steel framed structure with the possibility of lower levels consisting of reinforced concrete and related retaining walls on drilled caisson pier deep foundations. The exterior envelope is anticipated to be brick veneer with either precast or stone accents over heavy gauge metal framing. There will be both gabled and flat roof systems with portions anticipated to be a combination of vegetated and paver roof systems.
